One of my favorite places to take my dog in San Diego is Fiesta Island. It is located in Mission Bay right near Sea World and though it is not exactly an island it is joined to land by only one small strip of land big enough to drive on and off of.
There is a separate dog area where dogs can run off leash. It is fenced in and is about a mile walk along the beach with hills on one side and ocean on the other. Because of this, you do not need to worry about your dog running into the street and because you are walking the whole time you do not need to worry about hanging around a pack of aggressive dogs because you are constantly walking. This also gives your dog the option to swim run and play.
Another great thing about Fiesta Island is that there are fire pits. This is a great place to spend the day by the water and then watch fireworks from Sea World at night. Make sure to get there early as the fire pits get taken quickly!
Beyond dogs and fire pits there are also many water sports that take place off of Fiesta Island. There are kite surfers, kayakers, jet skis, boats, and you may even see some horses with their riders playing in the water.
Next time you’re looking for a cool place to take your dog make sure to give Fiesta Island a try and make a day of it!
