Last month my 8 year old chocolate lab, Makena, had ACL surgery. Yes, dogs can have the same injury as humans and it’s the same healing time – months! First, I want to give a huge thank you to our incredible vet, Dr. Grant from Community Veterinary Hospital in Garden Grove. Dr. Grant and the staff are amazing! I would recommend them for all your furry friends.
The first 2 months after surgery is critical for the healing process. During this time, your dog should be in a crate at all times, except potty breaks. This was going to pose a problem for Makena. We live in a beautiful, urban community in Irvine, Camden Main & Jamboree on the top floor. The Bark Park is on the completely opposite side of the building from us. Even though our community has elevators, it is a long walk for us, and when she sees her friends she gets very excited.
So this got me to thinking about what residents do when they have sick, injured, or old pets. I remembered that a neighbor mentioned something to me in passing regarding a company that provided portable “potties” for dogs. I found an incredible useful, smart, and reliable answer to my dilemma.
The company is called Doggy in the City. They have been in business since 2007 and they serve Orange and LA Counties. Doggy in the City provides small and large wood frame boxes with a plastic liner and fresh grass. “The small dog potty is perfect for small dogs and fits well on any patio or balcony without taking up too much room. The dimension is 1 ft. 6 in. x 4 ft. 3 in. and holds approximately 5 sq. ft. of naturally absorbent real grass. The large dog potty is designed for large dogs or multiple dogs. This box is 2 ft. 9 in. x 4 ft. 3 in. and holds approximately 10 sq. ft. of real grass.” The wood box is included in the price. You can choose from weekly or bi-weekly grass delivery. Doggy and the City will place the rolled up sod in a plastic bag outside your front door.
The website is very user-friendly and if you have a questions/concern they normally get back to you within 48 hours. For more information go to www.doggyinthecity.com.
We have been using this service for over 2 months now and it’s a great solution for your dog. I’m completely happy with it and Makena is happy and healing.
